a little unsettled with certain things right now
two tests coming up next week
and i'm pretty sure i'll Cs for both since journalism is almost meaningless to me
trust me, i've tried to deal with it
but i can't
forget the inverted pyramid
people should just be given facts of news in point form
problem?

anyway
with that little rant out of the way
i'm basically still slogging on with this semester
i'm really unused to all this new stuff
the lack of communication between lecturers is tiring
the vague CA briefs are annoying
and all the modules just seem so scattered and unorganized
web design and publishing?
no, we shall also teach you design thinking when it wasn't specified that we're going to learn it
oh, and we'll teach you a whole new way of getting new ideas even though writers are known to pluck ideas out of thin air AND despite already teaching you other methods to get new ideas

ugh
sorry, another rant just slipped through my fingers

anyway
no rest stops until the end of the semester as far as i can see
my GPA is gonna plummet
and it's not even up to my desired level
even my writing is going downhill
every time i come home from school
i'm too exhausted to even think about doing anything

sure reading comics helps
but it sure doesn't help by adding more to my emotional hurricane
which is actually a good thing for the comic
since it proves the writing isn't bleh

it's ok
my head's a mess right now
and i'm supposed to leave the house in 15 min to start filming for another project

my hair's still wet from the shower
i haven't changed
and i'm not ready to deal with other people right now
even though they are my friends

i just feel like being alone right now
and maybe it's my hormones killing my moods
since blood is currently gushing out of my parts
but still
i need something, someone to help with this mess

except the only person that can do that is thousands of kilometers away in merry old England

so
i've been facing a lot of frustration with my current load of CAs
and it's mostly because i'm not really sure what the lecturers want
i mean
i've been dealing with that since the day i stepped into SP
but this is a little tougher
which brings me to the entire argument of whether lecturers should be strict or lenient with their marking

personally
i'm not sure which is better
being strict will help us adjust to work life
but to get a job, we first need to get into university
which requires good marks
which the lecturers can't provide for ALL students

this makes life extremely frustrating
especially in a course depending on your creativity
sure, they mean the best
but sometimes
articulating an idea doesn't help show your vision of the end product
and judgement is immediately passed upon it
getting a potentially brilliant idea shot down

i honestly think lecturers should be more open-minded about our ideas
sure we need to constraints of the workplace
but definitely whoever we're working for allows us SOME creative leeway
right?
maybe i'm wrong
but producing something that we aren't comfortable in won't help our portfolio
which is supposed to help us get a job
which is what our potential bosses will look for to see what we can do and our style of doing things
if we produce things that our lecturers like and not us ourselves
it won't exactly benefit us in the long run

this is a crazy balancing act students and lecturers have to participate in
but i think if there was more and better communication between the two
a compromise could be made
without the trials of assignments being lifted
and without a student's creative licence getting denied

not going to happen anytime soon though
i just hope i'm putting my effort where it counts

it's been awhile since i posted
been, well, sort of busy

wrote the first draft of the first sub episode
that's 15 pages worth of script
and trust me
it's tougher than it looks

well, i'm into my second sub episode right now
but i've only completed 5 pages
and i'm lazy/tired to finish the remaining 10
sigh

watching the batman now
the cartoon series from the 2000s
the one that made bruce wayne look like the jackie chan cartoon
haha, well, he looks asian at least
same company as the one that produced the jackie chan cartoon i think
would explain a lot
always said the character designs for the villains were better

projects have already begun pouring in
busy busy
and so i'm feeling lazy
but oh well
seeing the modules i have this semester
i have to put in extra work to keep my GPA up
sigh

i need to get my head in the game
still thinking like it's the holidays
i've gotta balance out my work and my extra curricular writing before it's too late
then again
went through the previous semester with holiday thinking...

no, i have to get serious
especially now that i have so much more on my plate

just finished the 15 pages i targeted for this week
[my weeks start on a monday in my mind. blame school haha]
and it was really cool

it was really tiring and crazy
and i was thrown into an emotional whirlwind with so many characters living inside me at once
but it was fantastic

miss Stella asked the class after our scriptwriting module if any of us wanted, for sure, to write scripts in the future
and i must say
as tedious as it may be
it is certainly euphoric for me
not just when i've finished it
but there's a certain joy in the pain of it all
[how masochistic, but it's true]

it was alright
good to see familiar faces again

went out after to check out some nice places
one was cool but restricted
the other was creepy but has amazing potential
can't wait to go back there =)

in other news
getting back into x-men
now that they're starting anew
[unlike DC, though. which is good]
it's a great place for me to get back into it
long story short:
cyclops and wolverine have differing views on what they should be doing with the x-kids
wolverine wants to teach them
cyclops wants to train them
so now
uncanny x-men will end their run at issue #544
and begin again with cyclop's storyline with issue #1
and wolverine and the x-men #1 will show wolverine's story as he re-opens the institute

honestly
i'd go with wolverine
haha

got 2 big projects
1 of them is a group project and is estimated to end by august next year
long way to go
but when i look at the big picture, everything is really rushed
so it's kind of intimidating
but fun

the other is solo
and i'll really have to put in a lot of effort
since i know from experience i lose steam really easily when i work alone

got 2 smaller projects
one of them is just an idea
and the other i'm procrastinating
but the latter i'll have help from miss Stella
so i better put in more effort =P

all in all
a very busy semester and beyond
not to mention i've gotta start studying for my SATs
phew

i'm sure i can do it

suddenly feeling really disorganized
not sure why
and lazy too
that one...
doesn't need explanation
just procrastinating on some potentially fulfilling stories i should be writing

and i haven't been playing chrono cross
even though i got the emulator for my mac at the start of the holidays
i guess i just went into full blown work mode
and couldn't do anything else
i even watched all the shows i did as a part of 'work'

well
now i pay for it
i take it as extended work time
and now is the official time for my holiday rest

it works actually
it'll be nice if they had this sort of thing officially
self-work
guaranteed it will never happen though
considering how almost everyone will just treat it as holiday time
and i'm not saying i might not treat it as such as well

i guess i'm just really excited for this project
it's really going as planned so far
but i'm afraid once i have to do it individually
the momentum will just wear off

hmm
been in one of my low moods the past... week?
can't seem to shake this one off

it's kind of hard to explain
my life since i was about 11 or 12 has consisted of high, low and neutral moods
most of the time i'm feeling neutral
which is a blessing since i can easily swing both ways
if i'm in a 'high' mood
i'm usually more optimistic and cheery
[although i don't broadcast it]
but once i hit one of my 'low' moods
well
i turn really contemplative and i just feel this emptiness in me
sometimes i can shake it off by forcing myself to think of 'good things'
but sometimes it's like right now
where i'm too deep in and nothing i do can shake this feeling

i usually don't say a lot when i'm in my 'low' mood
so all this basically makes it a struggle to interact with others
sometimes they think i'm just 'high' when i'm being cheerful
and sometimes they think something's wrong when i don't say much

well the fact of it is
something is wrong
so i try to stay neutral
never know when a 'low' mood might hit and disrupt my 'cheerfulness'
it's easier to pass off as feeling fine as well

the holiday is ending
2 more weeks
and the 'low' mood will be over by then
[my lows don't stay for too long]
but right now
it feels as though i'm wasting my holiday

i'm trying to get work done
trying to be productive
trying to entertain myself
but everything i do now just seems so
temporary
like everything i do will amount to nothing eventually
so it really makes it hard to put any effort into anything
it makes it hard to enjoy anything

this is really dangerous thinking
especially now that a personal project is making progress
but i don't choose to feel this way
and it's really bumming me out and discouraging me
sigh

suddenly
i just feel like travelling
taking a bus or train for hours and hours and hours
to go some place far away
some place where people don't know me

no chance of that happening though
so might as well tough it out until the end of poly
we'll see what happens then...

24 24 paged stories [roughly 24 pages at least]
and half of them aren't bad

i complained about the reboot earlier

i've finally allowed myself to believe that it's not a totally bad thing, this reboot
[or maybe i've got no other choice but to see it this way, but i digress]
i mean
i'm actually keeping up with comics
this is a first, if you didn't know
i've only read trade paperbacks [collected stories from comics, e.g. taking issues #100-112 because they're one collected storyline and selling them solely as a separate from the 24 paged comics]
and maybe SOME comics that haven't printed too many issues to handle before the reboot
[i particularly enjoyed red robin and batgirl version 3 (stephanie brown. confused? why version 3? it's hard to explain but i can try if you're willing to listen. just ask me personally (= ) although red robin didn't end as well as i had hoped]
but other than that
yeah, haven't been dedicated to comics

i'm not totally hating this reboot

but we have a human audience and all her posing in her bikini and sleaziness doesn't do her character justice
her portrayal as a female?
i don't find it demeaning
it's the same as Joker killing people and calling all males psychopaths
you can't generalize these things
but her portrayal as starfire was cruel to pre-reboot starfire
phew, now that's done
it was nice seeing jason todd again
and the story was alright so far
a lot of questions that need answering

i just started reading comics like... 9 months ago? [reading trades as mentioned before]
and it drew ME in [to start following anyway]

suddenly facing a lot of personal dilemmas
i'm sure i'll come to a certain conclusion for all of them
but currently
i'm pretty much a mess

at least i'm being semi-productive
got amsterdam93 going on [HAHA]
the re-write of the love story script from my scriptwriting module
and my own personal work
which i shall have to re-organize to prioritize which to write first

but yes
right now
big mess

on the other hand
my tv watching list is going well
i think since i last updated
i've watched quite a number of tv series
glee season 2, modern family 2, vampire diaries 2, etc. etc. etc.
right now though
i'm powering through doctor who and justice league animated
started with the tenth doctor
and in season 4 now
finishing justice league and going on to justice league unlimited within...
3 episodes?

finished my first pile of comics
got loads more from my loved ones for my birthday though 8D
gotta try my hardest to finish them as fast as possible
and of course
still reading stephen king's nightmares and dreamscapes
it's pretty ok, i guess
a few nice ones
but that's pretty much it
gonna rush reading it too
then read game of thrones and finish the hunger games trilogy
before i move on with my incredibly long reading list

i may be a mess internally
but externally
i think i've got enough to keep me going

i'm still excited for my present from Kar Men and Jazlyn
and it still hasn't arrived >=|

more than a week since i posted

well
not gonna talk about what i've watched since i haven't really been
been reading comics mostly
and gosh it's killing me
got to control my reading habits or i'll go broke
and my grades will go

batman HUSH is really really good
like i mean seriously good
like as good as killing joke kind of good
better than batman and robin good
ok enough

i guess the art contributes to it
Jim Lee's art is just amazing

most of these are from batman HUSH from what i can see
i just love how he can be so detailed and yet not stray from still being comic art and not museum art

anyway

se7en was just freaking amazing
the story, the style, the acting
the ending was a little sad
and quite unexpected, though it was obvious who was going to be wrath
overall, it's something i can watch over and over again

haven't been blogging lately
too much going on
no mood to write clearly

with so much going on
i've been blocking out a lot of things
so i haven't been able to even think clearly

just a little catch up though:
hunger games [i suddenly realized i haven't exactly talked about it]

it's actually pretty good

in the midst of it all at least

act 1 was a little draggy

act 2 was just awesome

act 3 was slightly predictable

so generally

i've got mixed feelings about this

going to read the rest of the trilogy though

[already bought the books =P]

so i hope it won't let me down

i was actually doing other things while watching

though i can't remember what i was doing exactly =_=

it was really moving

and Philip Seymour Hoffman was just enchanting

the whole movie was quite slow going and full of emotional moments

so if you're impatient, this isn't the movie for you

i quite liked it

but i'm wondering if i would've fallen asleep if i had paid full attention to it

basically these types of movies are great, but not my cup of tea

overall, people should watch it

but be careful not to expect anything big

it's all in the little moments in this movie

i kind of wasted my time watching this

quite amusing to see Michael Fassbender [same guy who acted as Magneto in X-Men: First Class]

it was boring to no end

the title character was extremely weak in portrayal

both in acting and writing

when i saw that he could talk to dead people

the first thing i thought of was 'pushing daisies!'

but i'm not sure which came first so i won't think too much about it

the whole cannonball technology thing was quite cool

but that was the extent of it

the rest was just a snorefest

i didn't care about what happened

and that is the most dangerous thing for a viewer to say

reservoir dogs

another Tarantino film

and haha

this one is really good

as good as kill bill

maybe better even

it's basically about a bank robbery that goes bad

and people start blaming each other for ratting to the cops

the codenames were cute

the standard Tarantino skipping timeline was nicely done

the characters were really well written

and their dynamics were great

the ending was really good though

wasn't expecting it at all

and the style was just impeccable

way better than pulp fiction

everyone should watch this

unless you haven't got the stomach for blood

transformers

watched with my family

and it was going really well

like really really well

until the act 3

then it just took forever for anything to happen

but then i thought about it

and remembered

it's a Michael Bay film

explosions and action is his thing

and well

the climax is in act 3

so...

he's definitely going to milk it for all it's worth

so all's forgiven

it's probably the best transformers film out of the three

i feel a little iffy about blasting the autobots away though

but there's only so much you can do with a bunch of oversized man-toys

it's time they went to space since the world's just too small to handle them

the whole traitor thing was a little over the top too

and it occurred twice

so sigh

but judging on impact

it's the best

and i'm just a sucker for incorporating fiction to real life mysteries

teen titans 4 & 5

finally finished

though the last 2 episodes of season 5 was kind of disappointing

a whole season of devious planning to be undone in one episode

and the last episode was just 'WHUT'

i really didn't like how they ended the entire, not even season, but series

i'm hoping the movie will redeem it

i would have forgiven them if they switched the order of the last two episodes

sigh

read quite a bit of it today

and i'm seriously loving it

unfortunately, they're only selling it in singular issues at kino

at $5.50 a copy

and i just don't have that kind of money

sigh

even batman and robin is so expensive

i'm waiting for it to come in trade paperbacks

then i'll buy it

in the meantime

i'll download it reluctantly

damn Singapore and our small population and fan base

walking dead

true grit was alright
i guess i expected too much
but it was pretty ok
got really nice moments
and hilarious lines
and the acting was good
but i guess the end was a little bleh
good but somehow lacking
overall, it was a nice show though

teen titans season 3 is done
more than halfway with season 4
i've gotta finish it soon
then i can get started on batman: the animated series!

read the first volume of the walking dead
some parts of the tv series were almost identical to the frames in the comic
angles and such
it was really cool
but of course
the tv audience have different expectations compared to the comic audience
so they vamped it up a little
the tank scene in episode 1 wasn't in the comic
and well shane, the best friend, got killed by rick, the main character's, son
i guess having a kid shoot a man down in 'real life' just wouldn't fly with critics
and ratings
too bad i only saw volume 1 in the school library
would be nice to read the rest
then again
i get bored of zombies easily
shall write a zombie story one day
make them move fast for a change

the last story i read from nightmares and dreamscapes by Stephen King kept me up for a few minutes at night when i thought about it

and it was really freaky

evoke the reader's emotions
it'll be awesome to write like that
so the only thing to do right now in order to be that good
is to keep writing
just because creative writing modules won't be in my curriculum after this term
doesn't mean i'll stop
one of the reasons i want to write for a living
is because the job doesn't have a shelf life
i mean look at Stan Lee!
he's like ancient [no offence =P] but going strong!
the only thing that can stop us is probably Alzheimer's of something

watched kill bill with my parents again
it's actually pretty hilarious if you can laugh at the fountain-like blood spraying

but it really re-enforced how good it was
at least to me
i know my parents just watched it because volume 1 is banned in Singapore haha
unfortunately i couldn't find the volume 2 dvd and i deleted the file i downloaded
my mom was pretty disappointed

mostly because she was dying to know the storyline
a good thing right?

started watching glee season 2
watching the third episode now
the one where kurt's dad has his heart attack
and i really love it although it's only 15 minutes in
i honestly believe kurt is the best thing glee did for itself
as is Chris Colfer
in my opinion, the relationship between kurt and his father is better than all the flinging the main characters have going on
but i find this episode a little weird also
i believe in God and all
but i also respect other religions
and i feel a little odd because they focused so heavily on Christianity and Judaism

watched the hours today also
was truly amazing
especially loved Nicole Kidman's performance
didn't recognize her at first
she had a prosthetic nose on right?
haha
but the train station scene was really good
and the way all 3 storylines tied together was great
everyone in class should watch it haha
i just said that because they watched the first 5 minutes of it in miss Wai Leng's class
which was what spurred me to watch the whole movie in the first place
bottom line is, it's really good

it was amazing to watch Lee Pace [who also plays Ned, the title character of Pushing Daisies] act as a transgender character
he was really convincing
also because i forgot he acted in this show so i was wondering who it was for a while
really touching movie

blind side was really good
it's no wonder Sandra Bullock won the Oscar
another really touching movie
but i thought her husband and daughter's reluctance could have been milked a little more
other than that
everyone should watch this

with David Thewlis [who also plays Professor Lupin in the Harry Potter movies]

but it was pretty nice

i write because i want people to read what i write
i cannot write without an audience
small pieces, yes
but not full length ones
overall, this movie was pretty ok

i kind of expected it to be crap
but when i saw it
it was pretty ok
really exciting with a few funny moments
better than i hoped
but could have been better
maybe it's because i'm not knowledgable concerning the green lantern comics that's why i'm so forgiving
haha
the beginning with all the explanation was a little redundant though
they explained most of it again through dialogue throughout the movie
so yeah
it'll be fine if people miss the first 5 minutes like i did the first time haha
[i watched it again today with my dad because he was really looking forward to it and only could today]

super 8
another that i underestimated
love J.J. Abram's signature lamp flares
but sometimes a tad overdone
thought the main character was really annoying and passive at first
but he pulled through and became worth watching
i was surprised because even though i knew it was supposed to be sci-fi
the motives of the "alien" was something i didn't expect
really touching
and many symbolic moments
overall and great watch and something i would most definitely get the dvd of

i guess that's about it for the movies
will be going slow from now on
school starting next week
and i've made the decision to only go on the computer two or three times a week
so that makes torrenting and watching a little harder
ok maybe i'll torrent and watch

pirates of the caribbean: at stranger tides
a single man
winter's bone
modern family

those are the things i've watched lately

pirates was ok
but somehow it lost a certain piece of it's charm
maybe it was the absence if Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly
maybe it felt like the script was trying too hard to squeeze as much out of Jack Sparrow as possible
maybe it was the change of director
it just felt lacking

a single man was golden
it was seriously a masterpiece
every frame was beautiful and the story was just heartbreaking
Colin Firth finally shows his acting prowess
and this was before the King's Speech
i was surprised he wasn't nominated for an academy award for it

winter's bone was
well
disappointing
i read the synopsis and saw the poster and thought it was some exciting movie
but i was faced with endless amounts of dialogue and walking through the forest
maybe i expected too much
but i almost fell asleep watching it
actually i did for a few seconds every few minutes until i forced myself to pay attention
i liked Jennifer Lawrence's performance though
really felt for her
but that's about it

modern family season 1 is finally done
really nice to watch
one of the nicer comedies
i actually prefer it to how i met your mother
i guess the storylines just appeal to me more
and the characters more relevant

still got 5 seasons of how i met your mother clogging my mac's memory
so i better go through it soon
finishing pushing daisies [finally]
finished downloading batman: the animated series [the old one haha]
and teen titans
so i'll try to finish as much as possible before i watch those two

the first person narrative is a little weird at times

i hope they'll faithfully continue with the series as they promised
and not be swayed by their disappearance from the DC universe because of the reboot

got goosebumps after i watched it

a little iffy about the inaccuracy of which robin is which

whatever

it was perfect
it ended without being overly optimistic
or too depressing either

the death of that particular character was a complete shock for me though
but now that i look at the big picture
it was absolutely necessary
heartbreakingly necessary

after i read the book
i just sat there for a few minutes
just like that
the past 7 years of reading Alex Rider was over
true, there'll be a backstory book for one of the characters
but it's different

i once said i admired writers/creators who knew when to stop
despite all the success they may potentially achieve
they stop because the story calls for it be so
and it's exactly the same here
it's not a cliffhanger
but it's a new chapter to Alex's life
and has so much potential for more stories
but the end is the end
and i'm glad [though sad as well] that it ends here

i can't believe it
but i actually cried a little as i tried to sleep after that
i guess the end of it all only hit me as i was trying not to think about anything and sleep
well
they did say the more you tried to not think about something, the more you will do so unconsciously
there wasn't a particular reason
i didn't connect that deeply with Alex
i didn't want more from the series
it was just the thought that even if i re-read the entire series of 9 books
it'll never be the same as buying a new book
and wrapping myself in the pages of adventure and thrill
i've been to so many countries and missions with Alex
gone through all the danger and pain
and i needn't even leave the comfort of my home

honestly
i'm still feeling a little lost and empty right now
but i know i'll get over it
sort of

letting go
i talked about it with regards to books once
the black magician trilogy
but that was different
it was the letting go of characters in the point of view of the protagonist
this is the letting go of a series that sculpted my childhood
and may even have been part of the influence that made me choose writing as a career path

most of my generation may have felt this way about harry potter
or maybe they're just exaggerating it
i don't know
what i do know is
Alex Rider has changed me so intangibly that even i can't name what it is
but this series has touched me deeper than any other
and i know i wouldn't be the same without it

and for that
i'm truly grateful to Anthony Horowitz for bringing me through this journey with Alex
7 years of my life
1 year of Alex's
9 books of pure adrenaline

started on scorpia rising
about 2 thirds through
it's so damn good
once again, alex rider excites my heart and mind without fail

went to MAD fest training and all that
quite fun due to the company
better than last year when they just threw us into the whole thing
today was just crazy
haven't laughed so much since school was in session
with Kar Men and Jazlyn haha

pulp fiction was alright
style-wise and everything
it was ok
but the story was just

whut
it started from nowhere
and it ended at nowhere
i took nothing away from it
so it was pretty frustrating so watch an entire movie and not feel any different
maybe i'll watch it again in the future and see how it is again

taxi driver was almost the same
except the ending was so much better
and actors were great
the actors in pulp fiction were great too
but Robert de Niro and Jodie Foster were just so good to watch
especially the latter
she was like, what?
only 14 when she acted in taxi driver
so talented
and de Niro was just so into his character
forgot he was another person altogether
overall
it was ok
but not one of my favourites

on the other hand
just watched the first 2 eps [which were continuous] of Young Justice

the whole time i was watching it i probably looked like this:

oh yes
the point of this post
well
i finished how to live safely in a science fictional universe
and it's actually pretty good
once you get used to all the science-y bits and jargon
which i'm pretty sure is 100% theoretical and unproven, but still interesting anyway
the end was quite heartwrenching at first
and the the epilogue ended it really nicely
so overall, yeah
really good
[still thinking about the stupid ending of repo men and rolling my eyes
TSK]

but now that i'm done with that
i've decided to stay my reading of the hunger games just for one more book:
the last Alex Rider book - Scorpia Rising

i've been reading Alex Rider for like 7 years of my life
it all began when i was in primary 5
borrowing Timothy's birthday present from Jeremy: Stormbreaker
it was the first book of the series of 9 in total
[there were only 4 or 5 books out at that time though]
and it changed me forever
first time i read an entire book in one sitting
and it's probably the closest thing to a spy novel i'm ever going to read

so
now that i'm facing the end of it all
i'm feeling really reluctant to even open the book

for me
this is worse than deathly hallows
because with harry potter
i was beginning to get a little frustrated at harry and the sudden turn of events from book 5 [order of the phoenix] onwards
i love it
no arguing about it
and the coming of deathly hallows part 2 [the movie] makes my heart lurch just thinking about it
but still
Alex Rider is still closer to my heart somehow
and this final book is making me feel the same as what the last harry potter movie is making me feel

Alex Rider has never let me down
no sudden reveals about certain things that was too huge to believe
no lengthy books that make my eyes tired just looking at the volume
i've bought every single one of the books with my own money
[most of the harry potter books i have were bought by my uncle as birthday presents to my sis because the books always came out around her birthday]
and it takes some serious emotional investment to part with such money
[9 books!]

i know some of these don't seem like real reasons
but that's only because i can't really explain what's so important about Alex Rider that makes me so connected to the series

looking at this last book now
i'm hoping i can muster enough courage to read it soon
or i might just have to leave it for now
and i don't know which is worse
prolonging the pain to not reading it,
or immersing myself in the pain of finishing the journey

just got word via tumblr how DC has decided to reboot
and it kind of sucks

only plus point is
they're keeping Damian

i'm mostly mad at what they did with Dick

firstly
he's not going to be recognized as ever had put on the cowl of batman
secondly
he's probably never going to team up with Damian again
thirdly
THEY FREAKING TOOK AWAY HIS FINGERSTRIPES AND PERFECT BLUE
he's now bloody red [no pun intended] and without fingerstripes

i don't know why
but his fingerstripes just add personality
a nice personal touch so that when you see it
you immediately think: Nightwing -> Grayson -> the first boy wonder

just finished grave of the fireflies
cried so many times

one of the few non-Ghibli films i've seen so far
and it really is a masterpiece

i honestly have no words to describe it
all i can say is that everyone should watch this at least once

this really reminded me of empire of the sun
the way WWII was seen through the eyes of children
and not the war itself
but the suffering it caused those who weren't even involved

had a movie marathon yesterday
watched both volumes of kill bill
and i love you, phillip morris

kill bill was nice
i preferred the first volume
[although i think it's banned in Singapore
blood, gore, violence, all that jazz]
and the non-linear time-line was fun

Uma Thurman was enjoyable to watch
and both movies had a really upbeat tone to it despite her seriousness
really Tarantino

i think overall i enjoyed both films
but it's not something i'll watch all the time
maybe once in a long while
but definitely something everyone should watch at least once

i love you, phillip morris was actually quite good
following Jim Carrey's style
it was really fun and hilarious
and Ewan McGregor was just so cute
[i'm a fan of his, what can i say?]
the touching moments were really touching
they didn't screw it up with humour
and that's what i really appreciated in this film
overall
it was nice
Ewan McGregor deserves more credit as an actor!

back to Quentin Tarantino though

watched x-men: first class today with my dad

still bummed about the change of who's actually in the first class
but i guess overall it was pretty ok

my mom asked if thor was better and well
it was
but that doesn't mean x-men doesn't deserve some praise as well

a couple of nice set-ups and pay-offs
but like batman begins
i think a few would find it frustrating as the first act was quite long

i was surprised to see that it was actually written by 4 people
and the story was by 2 others, or maybe 1?
i couldn't recognize the other name
but i did recognize Bryan Singer
and
i'm actually glad to see his involvement
he sort of abandoned the third x-men movie [the last stand]
and it tanked really badly
but i liked the first 2 he directed

the chemistry between prof. x and magneto was really good
but all the characters apart from them are just
well
inaccurate and almost useless
i didn't really care about any of them -.-
Kevin Bacon was good as sebastian shaw
but the portrayal of the hellfire club was just disgusting
and so was emma frost
she's supposed to be the white queen of the hellfire club
one of the most powerful telepaths in the world
bossy, proud, demanding, even to the point of being bitchy
but i felt none of that
in fact, she felt kind of weak to me
she even looked uncomfortable in her lingerie
which, in my opinion, is the total opposite of what emma frost encompasses:
power

i guess the effects were good
and the story was ok
the acting so-so, apart from the two leads [which were great]
worth watching once
and maybe once they show on tv
but now when i review it in hindsight
it could have been so much better

P.S.
they should have seriously kept the original first class:
Cyclops
Marvel Girl [or as most know her - Jean Grey]
Iceman
Angel
and Beast, but he's already in the movie [though they screwed up his secondary mutation =_=]

watched the lovely bones
and it's actually not that bad

it was relatively ok
not fantastic
but i felt something
a deep ache i hardly feel when watching shows

and suddenly
[and i really mean suddenly, because i just thought of it a second ago]
i realize why

i feel that ache whenever it comes to letting go
i had it when i read the black magician trilogy by Trudi Caravan
i had it when i watched the ova for rurouni kenshin: reflection

each of them had an ending that included letting go
one way or another
and i felt that ache when i watched lovely bones

i cried when i watched toy story 3
but i didn't feel that ache
it's really hard to describe
but at least now i know the exact cause of it

now
for CPD we have to re-write HML CA10
and my theme for that is letting go
so
i really hope i can get it good enough
just so that i can get at least an inkling of that ache out of someone who will read it
just an inkling is the best i can hope for right now
but i'm still hoping

read batman black and white yesterday at the hospital

dad's surgery went fine
he's got 2 weeks mc so i better not be at home all the time
else it'll seem like i'm slacking off HAHA

black and white was cool
everything was just
yeah
in black and white
really noir
and some of the stories i really liked

read most of batman: the dark knight returns
read dark knight strikes again already actually
and i honestly enjoyed returns more
mostly because it's more about batman haha
and it's really interesting how it's one of the few if not only stories to focus on how the media affects public opinion
here comes school all over again
but studying writing and the media sure makes you think a lot about these things
and it's really cool to see it being incorporated into fiction
especially in stories as early as returns
but i admit it's tiring to read pages of text
not used to it
but it's worth it

watched 127 hours
finally
well the climax was REALLY gross
i mean i seriously felt like looking away
but overall
i actually enjoyed it
had a lot of closeups and nice music
short takes here and there and unusual shots
so it really reminded me of requiem for a dream
although less repetitive
it certainly made for a good show to watch

if the internet doesn't die on me
i can, hopefully, re-watch suckerpunch and get a first take on the lovely bones
heard the latter isn't all that great
but i still really wanna watch it

finally watched brokeback mountain
and it was just amazing

i read the short story by Annie Proulx a few months ago
but since that time i've forgotten most of the story
so watching this was just wow
it really surpassed my expectations of the movie when i first read the story

Heath Ledger was so heartbreakingly believable
i would have cried if i wasn't so tired

the ending was just perfect
and the buildup was incredible

most movies can't pull off buildups
because they want more dialogue
more action
more things to hear and see

but this was just amazing
they set everything up right without being too in-your-face about it
so when everything revealed itself
[and i say revealed itself because it just felt so natural and unforced]
you wouldn't even have said 'oh'
the only reaction would be 'aww'

the music was also extremely evocative
just like titanic
though less dramatic of course
it was subtle yet powerful
following the tone of the entire movie precisely

this is honestly
the best book to film adaptation i've seen
also considering harry potter
and that's saying something

but it has made me realize something:
i plan when i'm stressed

it doesn't matter what i plan or what i'm stressed about
i will almost most certainly [that's a mouthful] come up with a plan for something

i'm stressed about... ugh nevermind
but here's my plan:

1. find a new way to relieve stress other than fruitless planning

2. exercise, endorphines and all that

3. clean room. i usually pack stuff to procrastinate so maybe if i procrastinate procrastinating then i'll end up procrastinate-packing... but that will cancel out the first procrastination... GAH paradox

4. only go on the computer for a limited amount of time. i actually mean to say surf the net less, aka use less tumblr. watching shows are fine but also do more productive things...

5. like reading. or writing. been lazy lately so all my writing has been at a standstill. angry writing isn't good but it's still writing something.

i guess that's about it

in my rush to rant about the horror i felt when i watched the x-men anime
i forgot to mention a few movies i watched

peacock
a psychological thriller also starring Cillian Murphy
and well
he seriously out did himself
so far, from all the shows i've seen him in,
this is the best he's acted
the story was surprising and although the build-up was slow
it was good
the ending was a nice surprise, would never have guessed it

interview with a vampire
well
i expected more
hahaha
but it was alright
i wasn't totally let down
and the ending was really unexpected
really liked Tom Cruise in this
much to my own surprise
i loved the way he spoke

watched Kungfu Panda with Shawn yesterday
it was actually pretty damn good
cried at one point
emotional connection is there!
the changes between 3D and 2D animation is a little weird
but i get what they were trying to do
all in all
i'd love to watch it again actually

i think that's about it
if i'm not wrong
hopefully i can watch kick ass soon
not expecting much from it
but i hope it'll surprise me

been watching a whole bunch of shows

almost done with lie to me season 1
thinking if i should take up season 2
it's alright
but not a favourite

watched hard candy
patrick wilson was surprisingly good
and well, i already like ellen page so i'll just say it
she was awesome
it reminded me of sleuth which starred michael caine and jude law
story was different though
really gritty with lots of close ups
i enjoyed it a lot

watched the x-men anime
first episode
and i nearly died
felt so tempted to stop watching half-way
but sigh
it's x-men, so i couldn't

reasons why it felt weird:
1. they were speaking japanese
i mean, i love the language and love watching anime
but for a show that is deeply rooted in america, i just felt out of place
2. they started with the death of jean grey
i actually really like her
and to start with her end?
err, didn't appreciate it too much
3. scott and xavier's voices sucked
they weren't like their characters much
maybe i'm too used to x-men: evolution's voices
but still, scott's was too deep and xavier's was just...
unsophisticated, for the lack of a better word
he just sounded so un-mentor-like
4. over-exagerration, anime style
it doesn't suit the show at all
no matter how unreal comics are
they always have a certain sense of reality in it
animes are different
they show action with style
it's just that anime style and comic reality don't mix
at all

that about sums it up
but i'm not going to pick up the rest of the season
i liked wolverine and storm's voices though
they captured their personalities really well
but the excessive grunting from logan was unnecessary

reading oranges are not the only fruit by jeanette winterson
it's for philosophy class just like remains of the day
and it's alright so far
i actually enjoyed remains of the day
so i'm looking forward to the rest of this book

reading the art of lord of the rings
it's awesome
all the pencil sketches, colour studies and compositional studies
it really makes me appreciate the work they put into the movies
time for a LOTR marathon again ^^

more comics so i've gotta cram
downloading teen titans, sucker punch and kick ass
hope it'll load soon
but with my sucky internet connection... sigh

haha Cillian Murphy was just outstanding
and was surprised to see Liam Neeson and Dominic Cooper in it
it was told in an interesting style
and although quite sad at certain parts
it certainly held together quite well

just watched little miss sunshine
it was actually really good
in a very simple way
family and whatnot
i really enjoyed it and caught myself smiling a few times while watching

read finish the remains of the day
and it was honestly long but deep
i really loved the style and prose
and the tension between stevens and kenton was astounding
the blurb wasn't true to the book though
it really was much less about darlington and very much on stevens and kenton
a great read
will probably buy it if i have the chance
12 bucks or less if the class orders it

the thing i really wanted to talk about is the meeting i had with Je Yun just yesterday
it has been ages since i last met her
from her i could get back in touch with two social circles we had in common:
band and church
unfortunately neither of us had much contact with our section-mates recently
and we both have left our old cell group

this brought me to realize how out of touch i was with everything
that and messaging Keren today
i realized i've concentrated so much on 'me'
that i've so unfairly ignored my friends
maybe not all of them want to hear from me
but still
it is only right for me to uphold my end of the friendship in an effort to rekindle it

school has taken such precedence in my life
that i haven't had time for other things
i've been neglecting any exercise whatsoever
haven't been watching much shows
haven't been meeting up with friends
haven't been connecting with God

i've reached a point in my life now that
i once had everything
and now i've just muddled it all up
just because one aspect demanded more attention and time

sometimes i wonder
does accusing people who don't accept certain ideologies make us the same as them?
i mean after all
we are prejudicing against them too

i say that on account of many things
politics [especially since we're having our General Elections now]
homosexuality
and what inspired this post: comics

i mean certainly we all have our opinions
and preferences
and so we might sometimes not understand what others may feel about certain things
but that doesn't mean we should judge them either way
they like something, so be it
they hate something, that's your opinion
people don't have to over-react and disapprove of their opinions

in the case of comics
i have my favourites and i have my dislikes
but i certainly don't say that any of them are invaluable

being in a writing course
i'm finally seeing things as they really are
the entertainment industry is not for the viewer/reader
nor is it about the artist/writer/creator [sadly]
it's all about the money
whether people will accept the fact or not
it's true

the people who worked on the comics we read put in their blood sweat and tears
draft upon draft and hours upon hours of rewriting
and then the drawing
i can't imagine the effort they put into it
and to say they use cheap tricks to get people to buy the comics
or that their characters suck
or that the storyline was bad
well there is a reason why you have even heard of the characters right?
because others actually liked them and bought the comics so there was an audience for it
and when there is an audience, there is money to make more issues
to say that it's the writers' fault for using cheap tricks to sell
well
it's human nature to be curious about shocking incidents
and there are only so few things that can be done before we become numb to them

the killing of the Human Torch from Fantastic Four is not exactly the greatest idea in my opinion
[maybe because i like him]
but i don't think the writers will just write him off just because 'they thought it was best'
certainly they would have thought about the repercussions of doing so since all the stories they do after that will be affected

and people who ask for COLOURED or GAY super heroes just to feel included are just ridiculous
ok maybe they aren't asking to feel included
but MUST there be such characters?
people are people
heroes are heroes
i seriously don't care who saves me from mortal peril as long as i'm saved
must details such as their sexuality be made explicit?
i don't think homosexual people go around announcing they're gay right?
why must a hero do so?
and like i said earlier
entertainment industry = money
the comics industry is largely in America
now people like characters because they can relate to them
how many Caucasians can relate to a coloured hero?
sure, why not? [but i can't say for sure since i'm Asian by heritage]
the culture is different, especially if they didn't grow up in America
now
if the coloured character grew up in America
then how is it different from an American character apart from its race?
must such a difference be made explicit, once again?
if the coloured character is supposed to represent diversity, then the best would be to make it migrate to America
but then, the majority wouldn't be able to relate AS WELL to it
and i say the majority here because once again, it's about the money

i was completely surprised
but seems like out of the 8 or so issues
about 5 are ones i would've picked out myself

the issues are those thin monthlies they usually sell in the US
and they are in such good condition
some places just resell second-hand ones
but these are good and cheap
apparently she only paid a dollar each for them

i gotta go check out the store soon
hopefully tomorrow
then i can get her a present too

it was actually really good
Edward Norton is nice to watch
and Helena Bonham Carter's american accent was quite good
maybe cuz i've always had it in my mind that it's harder for someone with a british accent to put on an american one
compared to the opposite that is
not concrete proof on that though

i think i'll get the dvd

watched requiem for a dream yesterday
i really liked the style
and the way it ended
i saw a pic of Jennifer Connelly with the Steady-cam strapped onto her

so i was looking out for that part
fish-eyed lens was used too
that was a good scene
along with many others
the actors were good
the story was good
the style was good
the editing was good
i'll probably watch it again, though sparingly
these shows are so depressive

watched mysterious skin
starring Joseph Levitt-Gordon
and 12 angry men
starring Henry Fonda

both were amazingly good
i was surprised by mysterious skin
it's kind of hard to put down in words what i liked about it
but the twist at the end was one reason
i kind of guessed it about halfway through but it still was good
another thing was the different storylines converging
it's not like the heroes kind of complicated storylines merging together
but it was well paced and at the right moment
all in all
i'll recommend it to those who can tolerate some graphic scenes

12 angry men was attention grabbing
the pace was a little slow with many fades to black and silent pauses
but it was in the 50s
life was much slower then
the last man standing was a little unconvincing when he suddenly changed his mind
but other than that
i think great acting from all the guys
and the use of mostly one set was really good
i didn't feel bored by the setting at all
the lighting a whole different issue
but hey, black and white film right?
i'll just let it slide
all in all
recommend as a must see at least once in your life

and i've finally gone back to watching kuroshitsuji again

reading binge

since coming back from aus
well
been trying to milk my last week of holiday
and so
i've been reading a lot
not just Peter Pan
but also
lots of comics

discovered a gem in the SP library
Liquid City
an anthology of short stories by Southeast Asian illustrators, writers, artists, etc.
the main point is that
they're from where i am from
and many are based in Singapore too
so seeing the fruit of their labours is really inspiring for me
makes me want to go into graphic novels even more
=)

also began reading Watchmen
the first chapter is done
and the movie is uncannily like it
O_O
can't wait to read further

well other than that
written 2 chapters to my novel series so far
thinking of including an serial story arc
didn't have that in mind before
i'll think about it
and
i'm doing it differently this time
i'm doing it by hand
i guess it's sort of working so far
no distractions on a single piece of paper whilst the internet is just a click away on my mackie
well
we'll see how this pans out

oh and i watched another 2 discs of Fringe
1 more disc left before i finish the first season

sooo
i guess i should talk about the holiday right?
here goes

day 1
or rather night 1
just the flight
night flight so it was mostly just zzz
except the annoying kids
screaming and all that
so
not a very peaceful sleep
anyway
we flew for about 7+ hours until...

day 2
arrived early morning
had macs
or mackers as they call it in aus
then got picked up by Aunty Ann
trunk was just big enough for our 4 luggages
=)
so first destination: Paddy's Market
basically a huge area for pasar malam [night market] like stalls
wasn't much though
but it may just be me
nice Big Ass Fans though
same brand as the one we have in school haha
since we we're all just about to drop dead
headed back early and slept the rest of the day away

day 3
circular quay
took the ferries just about everywhere
and i must say
I LOVE FERRY BOATS
now those who find this familiar
think Dr. Shepherd from Grey's Anatomy
anyway
we ended up going to Luna Park
this awesomely vintage themed amusement park
just the sight of it was inspiring
since Shawn and i weren't adrenaline junkies like Jed and Hana
ok mostly Jed actually
we only spent a few hours there and so headed back
but before going back
took a wrong ferry though and headed to Darling Harbour
got a little lost
and had to take a train to Circular Quay station before transferring to a bus
a great experience
and a new way to go home
we went to the nearby mall called East Gardens
it's actually called Westfields
but it's like calling Raffles City Capitaland in local context
so East Gardens it is
and they have TARGET
i think that was the best thing all in all
haha
after we came back to drop off our things
went to visit another aunt of Jed's and mine
both their kids [our cousins] are recently married
and they seem to be doing great
chatted a little
then went home for a nice rest

day 4
went to Bondi Beach
and no
not to swim
it was autumn and freezing cold considering the wind and perennial cold waters of aus
so we just went to walk and take in the sights
and salty breeze
had the best fish and chips ever
and since we had some spare time
went to watch limitless at bondi junction [another Westfields mall]
nice premise
not the best execution
and the end was just...
let's just say it left a bitter taste in my mouth
but moving on
i guess that's about it for day 4

day 5
went back to circular quay
didn't manage to go to all the places we wanted to on the third day
so YES
MORE FERRIES XD
went to Manly Bay
didn't hang around too much
but it was the 2 best ferry rides in the whole trip
the choppy waves caused the boat to jump a lot
but well
that's the furthest i'll go for adrenaline seeking
the trips were half and hour long each
so lots of time to just feel the wind in my face and think
explored Darling Harbour a little and ordered IMAX tickets
found our way to George Street after
sort of like their equivalent of an Orchard Road
wandered around a bit before finding a new way to come home again

day 6
Aunty Ann drove us to birkenhead point
another shopping area
walked around but didn't find much again
i'm just not the shopping type
=/
but the idea was to burn time
IMAX timing for Suckerpunch was at 6+
either way
made it back to IMAX at Darling Harbour
and watched Suckerpunch in awesome IMAX dimensions
the retrieval of the map was really hard to watch since most of it was shot using handheld
let me just say that handheld shots and IMAX should never meet
but the rest of the parts like the retrieval of fire and the knife was great
all the effects could be seen in their true glory
although i've watched Suckerpunch once before with Rachel
i didn't have any expectation for the storyline
so it surprised me in a good way
i thought it was going to be worse
so i guess that made it work for me
i can watch it over and over again like 300
and although 300 is of course way better
Suckerpunch isn't all that shabby
moving on though
met up with Josh [another cousin, yes i have many] for dinner at 'pancakes on the rocks'
fish and chips were passable
but their pancakes made me melt
no wonder they include pancakes in their name, it's certainly their specialty
walked a long way to hyde park's bus station before heading back

day 7
ate pie at Hyde Park picnic style
and were surrounded by birds of all sorts
finished quickly and headed out
walked around and went to East Gardens again before heading back home
packed everything up
and slept our last night in Sydney, Australia

day 8
afternoon flight so got up early to check we have everything
head down to the airport
faced tiring immigration checks
and finally came home to Singapore
not before watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and The Social Network on the plane
and yes
i was mistaken for both films
they're actually good
social network was great actually
so yeah
i stand corrected
anyway
came home and crashed
celebrated my dad's birthday the next day and sent Rachel off to England as well

all in all
it was a great holiday for me
not because we went overseas
yeah i enjoyed it but
it was mostly for the company
i could have just spent the whole week at Hyde Park with them and not mind
but it was great to have done what we did with who we did it with

other than the truck load of house work i've been doing
ok it's just some work but it's still tiring and time-consuming

i've also been watching a whole bunch of movies i borrowed from

the school library

nausicaa of the valley of the wind

another studio ghibli classic
it's amazingly good
it's like...
avatar with a greater storyline and no weirdo aliens going all apesh*t and stuff
and the soundtrack is really awesome too
well Joe Hisaishi just couldn't resist adding the electronic drums but hey
it was that era of music so i'll let it slide
the Indian influence is REALLY AWESOME

one amazing show to remember

then there was persepolis

Academy award nominee for best foreign film
lost to ratatouille but after watching the cute little rodents it's perfectly reasonable
it was really good though
i listened to it in english even though it was originally in French
kind of regretted that but
all in all it was quite good
simple artistry, heartbreaking story, a really honest and raw film

ok this doesn't work well on a screen

INDIANA JONES! raiders of the lost ark

the beginning was really funny
a little slow
but as it went on
no mistake it's a classic

Academy Award WINNER for best foreign film
and i totally understand why
cried a few times
the story was really really good
good buildups and payoffs
good number of turning points
overall a really heartfelt story
orphan boy turns into a responsible young man

and then
finding neverland

ok i really didn't expect it to be so good
yeah i was drawn in to Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet
but still
the story was good
and Freddie Highmore was just AMAZING
so mature for such a young boy [at that time]
the times i cried were when he was delivering his lines
his emotion is just so infectious
it just grabbed me and squeezed those tears out of me
a really good film
one that can be watched more than once

and yes, lastly
another ghibli classic
laputa: castle in the sky

not as good as nausicaa but i still like it
i mean
i'm a sucker for steampunk and fantasy
[which i guess is most of ghibli's works right? hahaha]
but it's not only that
it was also Pazu's enthusiasm and determination that kept me hooked
laputa itself was =_=
but it was worth sticking it out for the whole show
might not watch it again though

it was
surprisingly good

it was naturally funny
especially Rachel McAdams
i'm actually beginning to like her
[wasn't a fan of her time traveller's wife performance]

a few shots were unusual
for a big screen, i mean
the tilted frames and stuff like that
but it adds to the overall mood of the scene
the running shot of Rachel McAdams [with the pigeons] was just magical
and the shot of Harrison Ford throwing the apple in the bin was just
awesome timing

found the love interest to be redundant

he just had an annoying face
[pretty sure he played an annoying character
some bad guy who probably left his teammates behind in some apocalyptic show or something]

and suddenly i realize
they're both animated features!
ok it's a little slow
but yeah

rango was
pretty deep actually
and really cute
the characters all looked so real despite their caricature style
texture and all

the illusionist was mostly silent
and i REALLY love silent shows

it was really sad
touching type of sad

this is the perfect example of a character being too

so it's annoying

he has to be real in a certain sense

kryptonite doesn't count as a flaw

but supergirl
she's like batman in super form
ok that doesn't really make sense

she's got all of superman's power
but also has the internal turmoil of batman

the creepiness of it all is emphasized not only by

this is some weird crap

it was pretty awesome
gives me a certain sense of peace
and if only the whole world was a huge chunk of land
i won't mind travelling like that
and only if i have a nice motorrad like Hermes of course haha

and finally picked up Fringe again
after reviving my interest in it by talking to Shawn
and forcing myself to borrow it
AND finally remembering that i actually borrowed it earlier today

i'm guessing i'll have a lot to catch up on
before school reopens and all
have to work extra hard

and mr Fred was right
it's hard to switch off all the technical stuff once you learn it
right now
bits and pieces of camera angles, rule of thirds, lighting, sound effects, pace and jump cuts are all racing through my head as i watch a tv show or movie
i makes watching shows tiring
and that's not even dwelling into the content of the show yet

but i must admit
i really love what i'm learning
and i really hope i can produce something of that much impact in the future
hopefully a massively dynamic idea would come to me and producers will buy it

i realized that the majority of characters look similar
i mean they all do have the same template
but
some of them remind me of other characters too

this is the Undertaker from kuroshitsuji
he kind of reminds me of...

break of pandora hearts
their personalities are
well

the puppet master in kuroshitsuji
he reminds me of...

hikaru/kaoru of ouran
their personalities are worlds apart
but when i first saw the puppet dude
i immediately thought of ouran

and now i've finished the x-men collection

i must say
astonishing x-men is pretty awesome
[and to think i could've missed out on reading it just because i thought i had already]
and house of m is just plain AMAZING

i admit
and hardcore comics fans please don't hate
i don't like the old-fashion comics illustration styles
event he colouring
but that may be due to the old printers too

i just prefer the newer style of art
and colouring
cleaner images and lines and better shading and all that
more realistic i suppose

then again
that's just personal preferences right?

maybe i'll go down to a public library and check out their comic collection

after the comic based movies started coming out

i have to say i was one of those attracted to the x-men from the movie

forgot how good spirit: stallion of the cimarron was

most of the show was told through the horses' expressions
and the story itself was good
it was even nominated for the best animated film oscar!

i prefer fullmetal alchemist, pandora hearts and 07 ghost though

it's pretty cool
and it's been a while since i last watched anime
but i think i much prefer watching dramas and sitcoms now

the king's speech

watched the king's speech today!
now i realize how it earned 4 oscars
but somehow
i sort of disagree with best picture
but that's just my opinion

Colin Firth was amazing
like Jed said
a good actor makes you forget who they really are and only makes you see the character they're playing

Geoffrey Rush was pretty good too
and Helena Bonham Carter was so convincing

there were a few amazing shots
as in literally awesome frames and angles

then again
black swan had a few awesome shots as well
and one of them was sustained with far more movement than the ones in king's speech
[i'm talking about the one with the violin in the foreground, Natalie Portman dancing with her partner in the middleground and the choreographer with 2 other people at the back]
i absolutely adored that shot

oh well
the academy awards are always unpredictable
[Christopher Nolan didn't win best original screenplay?!?!?! D8]
but i can just hope that with enough hard work and experience
i might just be able to get nominated one day

finally watched the imaginarium of doctor parnassus
it was actually really nice

i heard some people say that it was confusing

and nonsensical
but it was none of the above for me

she's already reading the 6th HP book since CNY
that's like an estimated 3000-5000 pages in 4[?] weeks!

got it all written down in my messy little notebook
i seriously have to finish using this one soon

the term is almost up
the academic year actually
only left with EP and CMM to hand up

just handed up VPPP
and wow did it feel great
it is times like these that makes everything you do worth it

the video
though not exactly as planned
turned out really close to what we were hoping for

i'm really glad mr Fred approved of it
and i'm really blessed to have such a team
Shawn, Nabila, Bernita, Tanya
all of us managed to work as a cohesive unit and bring out the best in each other

i think i was a little hard to deal with sometimes
but with the patience and kindness of the group
we managed to pull through

i must really thank Shawn for his hard work
the editing was mostly his doing
only having us comment on it now and then
he was the one to string all our toils together
to bring out the beauty of what we have now

i must also thank mr Fred
for all his helpful tips and pointers
and for just being there for us
even though he is leaving soon
i think i'll miss him

so now
all that is left is EP and CMM
and that's still a lot
so back to work
and all the best to the rest of the course

watched this beloved animated film again
this time in english
a first for me since i much prefer the original japanese voices

it was kind of weird hearing the extreme ghostbusters' Garret's voice as Haku
it was just weird on the whole
but i guess it was tolerable
=/

and then suddenly i realized where i got the image for one of my stories

i have got to finish that story

but CAs are first and foremost
one more week and i'll have 6 weeks of technical freedom
i'll read and write until i go crazy
and finally go out with my friends

all i have to do is write articles

and by serious i mean the dry and boring ones

is basically articles written by the press corp during the council sessions
compiled and printed
all in a matter of hours

Females speaking of military action always accompanied it with synonyms of the action taken being restricted and observed. Males mentioning human rights only cite it as a result of their intended military intervention of Sierra Leone.

Perhaps it is the country’s best interest they are basing their argument on. But with the apparent divide in priorities, one wonders if their position is biased or not.

but i watched moulin rouge again last night
well
fast forwarded most of it but yeah

still can't decide if i like it or hate it
sort of both i guess
the style is interesting
new for that time i guess
the story is crappy
and the songs were
well quite painful actually

well looking at that
i guess it's more of a 'hate'
but then again...
i enjoy the bohemian revolution
